Amos
Pit Bull Terrier
Introducing Amos, a senior pitty with tons of love and a sometimes puppy-like playfulness.
This sweet boy has a remarkable way with people, forming deep connections and offering unwavering loyalty. Amos is a seasoned pro at being the perfect companion, whether it's a cozy night on the couch or a leisurely stroll through the park. He thrives on human interaction and is ready to share his golden years with someone special.
Amos, though a senior, still has a heart full of love to give to other dogs. With slow introductions and a patient approach, he can build positive relationships with his furry friends. Amos understands the art of companionship and would appreciate a calm home where he can relax and enjoy the company of his loved ones.
In his ideal home, Amos envisions a tranquil environment where he can savor the simple pleasures of life. He's past the energetic antics of youth and is ready to embrace a slower pace, filled with gentle walks, cozy naps, and the comforting presence of a loving family.

Bailey
German Shepherd Dog
A high kill CA shelter was seeking immediate rescue for this beautiful female German Shepherd mix and she was within one hour of being euthanized. We had to save Bailey, but unfortunately she is in major need of surgery to repair her hip (and get spayed). That surgery is scheduled for April and then she will require a quiet place to heal.
She is a very sweet dog, wants nothing more than to give kisses and get pets, and at this point, lay down and feel safe. She is safe and out of the shelter, at our Stagecoach sanctuary... and she is the sweetest!! If you are interested in taking in a wonderful, gentle dog and helping her have a happy future, please fill out an application at www.tahoewarf.org and call 775-338-6631 or 775-846-3773.
Calvin
German Shepherd Dog - Pit Bull Terrier
Calvin was originally rescued in the summer of 2022. He was adopted and then returned in December of 2023 because his owner did not have time for him.
Calvin does not understand what he did wrong and really wants to find his forever family! He is great with other dogs and gets along with cats. He is sweet, fairly submissive, and in spite of his size loves to sit on laps! Calvin would really like to find a family who will spend lots of time with him and ideally has another dog to keep him company. He is house trained and knows how to use a dog door. Calvin is a true mutt with a mixture of shepherd, swiss shepherd, cattle dog, pit bull and more (incluing 1% chichuahua!)
Please complete an online adoption application at www.tahoewarf.org or call/text Sam at 775-338-6631 for more information on this great pup.

Learn MoreDeclan
German Shepherd Dog
Here is Declan! He has been in our care for over three years, being pulled from a kill shelter on his last day by a WARF volunteer. On arrival at our sanctuary, we discovered that Declan's left eye was completely ruptured and had to be removed due to either bullet or blunt force trauma. We also discovered that he was likely a former guard dog that had been badly trained, resulting in misplaced aggression towards people and animals. Declan started out with only one friend in the world and was aggressive towards everyone, but he is now confident enough to be able to be introduced to new people by his trusted handlers in a slow, controlled environment. In the three years that Declan has been with WARF, he has made slow but steady progress, and we now feel that he is ready to find his special person. He would be an ideal dog for a single woman, as his protective nature really comes through once he has bonded with someone. He would prefer an indoor-outdoor environment, as he likes to roam the perimeter, making sure everything is safe, but needs to be securely contained as he is a big, strong boy and can't be in an environment where he could encounter a person or animal he does not know. Declan has learned to walk nicely alongside other dogs but does not want to share his life, or his people, with other animals. If you are interested in learning more about this incredibly resilient dog, please call/text 775-338-6631. An adoption process for Declan would require a calm but confident person who is willing to commit to multiple get-acquainted visits and a home check, as we want to be sure that he never has to go through abandonment and trauma again.
Learn MoreDuke
Chocolate Labrador Retriever - German Shepherd Dog
Hello! My name is Duke, and despite life's challenges, I'm here to share my boundless love and unwavering spirit with someone special like you. At 5 years young, I may have a touch of arthritis from my past, where I believe I spent a bit too much time in a cramped crate. But don't let that slow you down from getting to know me! I'm still full of life and zest, eager to embark on new adventures and create beautiful memories together. Let me tell you a little about what makes me, well, me! Firstly, I'm a playful soul at heart. Yes, you heard that right! Despite my achy joints, I still revel in the joy of playtime. Whether it's a gentle game of fetch or a leisurely stroll with my beloved toys in tow, count me in! There's nothing quite like the happiness that comes from sharing moments of laughter and joy with a cherished companion. Ah, speaking of strolls, I'm quite the aficionado when it comes to walks. There's something truly magical about exploring the world outside, feeling the fresh air on my fur, and experiencing the wonders of nature. And with a patient and understanding friend like you by my side, every step becomes a little brighter and more enjoyable. Now, let's talk about my toys. Oh, how I adore them! I may have a little collection that I like to carry around with me wherever I go. They're my comfort, my companions, and my source of endless amusement. I promise I'll never leave home without them! Despite life's trials and tribulations, I've never lost my capacity for love and companionship. I'm a loyal and devoted friend who's ready to stand by your side through thick and thin. And while my body may not be as spry as it once was, my heart is as big as ever, brimming with affection and gratitude for the chance to find a forever home with someone as special as you. If you are interested in Duke, please fill out an application and call 775-338-6631 or 775-846-3773.
Learn MoreEstrella
Husky - German Shepherd Dog
Meet Estrella! She is a husky mix (possibly a little German Shepherd) who has quite the story to tell. She was first spotted in Tahoe City early in 2022, where she evaded capture for months until becoming so weak and injured that she was ultimately trapped. After that, she was treated at an area veterinary clinic, from which she escaped again. After being trapped a second time, Estrella was adopted into several homes but never found a good fit. She was almost feral and acting out, making her very difficult to place. In addition, she has an ocular condition called pannus that will require lifelong treatment to maintain the health of her eyes. In the late spring/summer of 2023, Estrella came to WARF. She was skittish and very fearful of noise and anything new. She found a foster home, where she slowly decompressed and began to trust again. Being around other dogs is essential for Estrella, but she has a strong personality and will need a family who is willing to work with her quirks. She is playful with the other young dog in her family but is mouthy like some Huskies can be and has to be managed on walks and hikes. Once she is comfortable, she has great house manners and rides well in the car. In spite of all that Estrella has survived, she has a very sweet nature and is willing to give us humans a second chance at being her friend! Please complete an adoption application at www.tahoewarf.org or call/text Sam 775-338-6631 if you'd like to hear more about this amazing dog.
Learn MoreHoney
German Shepherd Dog - Rottweiler
Honey came to us from Washoe County animal services where she had been picked up as a stray. She is a gentle, sweet but a bit timid young girl who wants lots of love and to feel safe.
If you are interested in meeting her, please fill out an application at www.tahoewarf.org and call 775-338-6631.
June Bug
Bull Terrier - American Staffordshire Terrier
June Bug is the happiest, silliest girl with a huge smile that encompasses everyone she meets. June Bug has cerebellar hypoplasia, a congenital condition that basically means part of her brain did not develop fully. It is not painful and will not progress, but it does result in a clumsy gait and sometimes June Bug gets going so fast that she will fall over her own feet.
She is able to do everything a normal dog would do, and she loves to chase balls and tug toys. She also wholeheartedly believes that she is a lap dog and will snuggle endlessly with you, but would do best in a single dog household.
She is completely unaware of her condition, and her joy at being alive just shines out of her. June Bug was saved from euthanasia at the very last minute because she stole the heart of the rescue coordinator at the high-kill shelter where she ended up several weeks ago, and now she is safe with us but is longing for her family to find her and take her home.
June Bug would be a wonderful therapy dog...we would love to find someone who would be interested in showcasing this special soul by taking her to visit special-needs children or adults and showing the world that a little disability is nothing that can't be overcome with a willing spirit and a lot of love! Please complete an adoption application at www.tahoewarf.org or call/text 775-338-6631 for more information on this very special dog.

Learn MoreLucy Lou
Pit Bull Terrier - Yellow Labrador Retriever
I’m a lotta Girl — who wants (and gives) a lotta love. Sadly, my owner died and left me an orphan, but his long-time rescue friend took me in. I am TOTALLY a respectful house guest. I don’t get into anything I shouldn’t. I love the dog door access to the yard, and don’t ever try to escape. And, I am fine home alone. But I sure enjoy my people being around too.
Pretty well adjusted if I say so myself. Please have a king size bed because I like to sleep with my person. But if you want me to stay on my bed, I will do your bidding. No problem. Oh, I like to sing with fire engine sirens. You can join in! I like to play with my squeaky toy — or go on short walks.
I have congenital stuff going on but I have learned to compensate well. Geez, been managing fine for 5 years. You will be surprised when you see how I can move!! : > )) — and maybe you will learn something about resilience -- and compensating that works!! And gotta love my underbite smile, and black mascara! Beguiling!
I love to tour in the car -- but would appreciate a low riding float boat. My ride used to be a Dodge Charger: I am COOL.
Please give me a chance to charm you!
Contact is my foster Mom, Robyn, in Carson City. She will only adopt to local folks and likes to speak with you on the phone, go over your application, and do home visit to see where I would live. She also asks for a donation to WARF — they do such great things for us needy pups. Thank you for reading about me, come meet me! 775-240-5142 phone/text.

Luna
Pit Bull Terrier
Meet Luna: A Resilient Canine Companion
Meet Luna, a remarkable pup who has overcome incredible odds. Despite spending a whopping 595 days in the shelter, Luna's spirit remains unbroken. Her journey isn't just about waiting; it's a testament to resilience and the unwavering hope for finding a forever home.
Since being rescued by WARF, Luna has blossomed into a beacon of hope, love, and joy. At just 3 years old, she's already shown incredible adaptability and a zest for life. Luna's story is a reminder of the transformative power of love and patience.
In her foster home, Luna has shown her playful side, eagerly sharing toys and space with her foster brothers. Within the first week, she was already frolicking and playing with them, a testament to her social nature. While Luna sometimes struggles with sharing attention, she's making progress with training and patience.
While Luna adores her foster siblings, her heart truly belongs to her human companion. She craves companionship and thrives on affection, eagerly seeking out cuddles and playtime. Luna's enthusiasm for life is infectious, whether she's playing fetch, engaging in tug-of-war, or simply enjoying a good back scratch.
Like any pup, Luna has her quirks. She has a penchant for destroying toys (and occasionally munching on them!) and has shown a fondness for shoes, although she's making strides in leaving them alone. While she's not a fan of the crate, Luna is crate trained and exhibits excellent behavior in the car.
In social situations, Luna is generally dog-friendly with a gradual introduction, particularly preferring submissive canine companions. While she may bark at unfamiliar dogs in indoor settings, she's learning to adjust with time and patience. With just two weeks in her new environment, Luna's progress is remarkable, a testament to her resilience and adaptability.
As Luna continues to explore her newfound freedom and embrace the joys of being a dog, her journey serves as an inspiration to all who meet her. With love, patience, and understanding, Luna is sure to thrive in her forever home, bringing endless joy and companionship to those lucky enough to welcome her into their lives.
If you are interested in meeting Luna, please fill out an application at www.tahoewarf.org and contact the foster at egulini83@hotmail.com or (801) 641-7752.
Marshall
Husky
Meet Marshall, a distinguished Siberian Husky with a heart as boundless as his energy! Marshall was destined for euthanasia at Washoe County and we just couldn't let that happen. At his golden age, Marshall proves that age is just a number, as he still possesses the vigor and enthusiasm of a pup half his age. This charmer is a true gentleman through and through. His affectionate nature knows no bounds, and he showers everyone he meets with love and warmth. Marshall thrives on companionship and cherishes every moment spent in the company of his beloved humans. Marshall's ideal home would be one filled with love, laughter, and plenty of opportunities for fun and excitement. She loves to play ball, is learning to walk nicely on a leash, does well with other animals but does like to chase cats. She would likely thrive with a young, playful buddy.

Sophie
Wire-haired Pointing Griffon
Hi there, my name is Sophie. I am ALL Griff, loving, silly, devoted, 2 speeds: hang out, and sporting field girl. I am part of my Dad's Griff family, and I have been Mom to many well adjusted pups. But now I am being retired, and my Dad wants me to go to a home where I will be spoiled and part of the family and household, for my retirement years.
I am great with humans of all sizes -- and other dogs (used to living with them). Still have run in me -- and could use some training in recall as I get pretty 'focused' on following my nose when I am out in the field. I haven't been hunted lately, because my Dad doesn't hunt as much as he used to. Anyway, please call on me or come meet me. I live in Idaho near Twin Falls -- and am seeking a home within close reasonable driving distance so I can be near to Dad. OR close to Reno/Tahoe/Carson City (the gal who is helping my Dad find me a home). She is doing the initial screening, and is asking for a phone call interview, application, home visit, and adoption fee that will go to Dad and rescue. Thank you for your interest.

Dax is a gentle-giant with lots of love to give. He needs a new home as the family is moving to an area where it is difficult to find a rental with a large dog. He gets along with other animals, currently lives with cats, but his play with dogs is restricted due to the fact that he has Hip Dysplasia. This is managed by monthly self-administered Adequan injections, daily dasuquin tablet, daily Melaxicam pill, and a joint liquid additive (farnam brand).
Dax has been heavily socialized and loves people. He has never been aggressive toward people and is always eager for attention.
He is good with children, very gentle and kind, but due to his size and excitability/clumsiness it is recemmended that he isn't around really small children.
He is not aggressive towards other dogs, generally just wants to play with them but we restrict play due to his hips. He has lived with cats his entirely life and has gotten along with them.
His ideal environment would be house with a decent sized yard so that he can roam and observe the outdoors daily. An owner(s) that can provide him plenty of attention and a few short daily walks but also prevent over exercising and running to maintain his hips.
If you are interested in Dax please contact Brett at brent.turner25@gmail.com or 810-627-3018. Rehoming fee is $350.
Doby
Pit Bull Terrier
*** COURTESY LISTING *** PLEASE CALL OR E-MAIL THE PERSON LISTED. DO NOT CONTACT WARF AS WE HAVE NO FURTHER INFO.
Hi! My name is Doby. I am an approximately 2 year old female (spayed) ‘pocket pit’. I am
definitely part Pitbull Terrier, but the veterinarians think that I may also be mixed with a Boston
Terrier. I am only about 40 pounds. I am black with a little bit of brindle and white stockings on
my legs with a white blaze on my face. I think you would agree that I am as cute as a button. I
have big ole pointy ears and that is how I got my name - Doby the House Elf!
I am a very energetic girl and need lots of exercise. I was relinquished to Fairgrounds Animal
Hospital after my housemate and I just could not learn to get along. The prior owner’s
mentioned that the housemate was much more of the aggressor. I do love other dogs myself,
but I definitely get over-stimulated. I can get a bit pushy and do not like to be corrected by other
dogs. I have decided that other female spayed dogs just are not going to be part of my clique.
However; I do love the big silly male Husky that I lived with at my foster home. He was very laid
back and always wanted to play. I do feel that I would do best in a single dog household or can
have a meeting with a laid back larger male dog prior to adoption. I have also been around cats
and just like with dogs I get a little too excited. When I was with my foster mom her cats hissed
at me and even swatted. I was a little confused and would just stare at them, never once did I
try to harm them. However; I am a big pup and with my over-stimulation a household without
cats might be best as well.
My foster mom has been working with me on leash walks. Overall I do well, but just like a
typical terrier sometimes I cannot help myself and will bark and get too excited. We are working
on this, but I do recommend my new home have humans who have had terrier and/or reactive
pitbull experience for continued training. I also feel that I would do best with children over the
age of 12. This is not because I am aggressive with them, simply that I am 40 pounds of
muscle and would be worried that I could accidentally knock over a smaller child. I am so sweet
and it would break my heart if I unintentionally hurt someone.
I really just want to love my people and I am very affectionate. Once I settle in, I will be your best
friend. I will cuddle and make you laugh. I am a bit misunderstood at times, but with the right
family I know I will fit in well. If you are interested in discussing my personality and possible
adoption then please contact Fairgrounds Animal Hospital at 775-329-4106. This clinic is very
busy; therefore, if you do not reach one of our receptionists right away, please leave a message
with your phone number and interest in Doby and we will return your call as soon as possible.
Yogi
Border Collie
*** COURTESY LISTING *** PLEASE CALL OR E-MAIL THE PERSON LISTED. DO NOT CONTACT WARF AS WE HAVE NO FURTHER INFO.
Yogi is a loving 6 year old spayed Border Collie Mix. Her true joys lie in the simple pleasures of belly rubs, cuddling, walking, swimming, and hiking, where she can revel in the great outdoors. She is very happy when she is at home in the presence of others.
Yogi thrives in the company of adults, showering them with affection and loyalty. She is silly and playful and will frequently request more love by waving, placing her paw on you, or bringing you her favorite toys with the hope that you will throw it.
Yogi has professional training with use of an E-collar and knows commands including sit, stay , down, wave hello, and kiss. She is up to date on all shots and vaccines. Yogi is very easy to bond with.
Yogi grew up going to the dog park and going on walks or runs daily. She made immense progress with professional training but is leash reactive towards some other dogs. Although it is far from daily behavior, 3 times Yogi has turned to nip the person walking her when she is barking/ pulling at other dogs almost like she is trying to pull you away. In these moments her instincts take over and despite her training she does not listen. For this reason if she is to be walked she requires someone who can handle these episodes. She has had a few scuffles at the dog park and has bullied smaller dogs. The dogs she does vs. doesn't do well with is not completely predictable, therefore, she does best in environments where she doesn't need to encounter other dogs often. This makes bustling environments including cafe's and breweries difficult for her. Yogi has also demonstrated herding behaviors with children and would do best in a home with no one younger than 12. She is currently taking fluoxetine to calm some of her anxieties when other dogs are present however the behaviors still exist and it is not evident if this has or hasn't helped. There is no doubt that Yogi would never be aggressive in a home environment when other dogs were not involved.
If you are interested in Yogi, please contact lauraccannon2@gmail.com or call (510) 435-9198. Rehoming fee is $200.
SAVING LIVES, ONE ANIMAL AT A TIME.
The Wylie Animal Rescue Foundation (WARF) is a small group of volunteers dedicated to rescuing companion animals. We rescue animals that are in imminent danger of euthanasia, usually directly from the euthanasia holding rooms of local shelters.
We have rescued thousands of animals from certain death, but millions more were not so lucky and died--unloved and unwanted--in shelters across the country. We hope that you can help us turn the tide of suffering and death.
We rely on donations to fund emergency medical treatment, spay/neuter, and rescue. Please click here to make a one-time or recurring donation. We and the animals thank you!

25 years ago, after the death of our beloved Wylie, one of our founders went to the old Reno Animal Control facility to find a dog to foster. She noticed that four of the kennel cards had the corners turned down and asked why... fast forward an hour or so, and a Honda Civic loaded with four very lucky dogs exited the shelter on what was to be their last day on earth. All four dogs were placed in good homes. and a rescue group was born.
