If you're searching for a gentle, loyal, and utterly lovable companion, look no further than Buddy—a 6-year-old Black Lab mix with a heart of gold and a serious attachment to his favorite toys.
Buddy is the sweetest, most snuggly boy you’ll ever meet. He adores people of all ages and will happily lean in for hugs, head scratches, and couch cuddles any time of day. Whether you're relaxing at home or heading out for a drive, Buddy is just happy to be by your side—especially if he has his squeaky pig or ball in tow. (Seriously, that pig goes everywhere.)
This handsome guy is calm, affectionate, and incredibly well-mannered. He’s also a champion car rider, making him the perfect co-pilot for weekend getaways, coffee runs, or trips to the park.
Buddy’s must-haves:
His ball or squeaky pig (non-negotiable)
A soft place to nap—and someone to nap beside
Lots of love and gentle pets
Passengers to charm on car rides
A forever family to adore
He’s up to date on vaccinations, house-trained, and ready to bring unconditional love (and maybe some squeaks) into your life.
Buddy is more than ready to find his forever home—one filled with love, comfort, and, of course, his beloved toys.
Recently Buddy was diagnosed with FCE, Fibrocartalaginous Embolism which causes neurological signs including weakness of the back legs, but this doesn't slow him down at all! It is a nonpainful condition that does not affect him other than a slightly irregular gait, which only makes him easier to love!

Cowboy
German Shepherd Dog - Anatolian Shepherd
Cowboy was rescued from the euthanasia list at a high-kill shelter. He is a sweet, loving puppy who we believe was probably confined to a very small space for much of his young life, resulting in some muscle atrophy and tail-chasing behavior.
Cowboy does not have a mean bone in his body and is friendly to everyone he meets. He would do well in a home where he gets lots of attention and activity to keep his mind occupied, in addition to lots of playtime and regular exercise to build him back up. This poor young dog has been failed by humans up to this point but is still trusting and loves to be with people.
Please give Cowboy a chance, we would love to see him grow and thrive in a foster or permanent home. If you are interested in Cowboy, please fill out an application at www.tahoewarf.org and text 775-338-6631 or 775-846-3773.

Declan
German Shepherd Dog
Here is Declan! He has been in our care for over three years, being pulled from a kill shelter on his last day by a WARF volunteer. On arrival at our sanctuary, we discovered that Declan's left eye was completely ruptured and had to be removed due to either bullet or blunt force trauma. We also discovered that he was likely a former guard dog that had been badly trained, resulting in misplaced aggression towards people and animals. Declan started out with only one friend in the world and was aggressive towards everyone, but he is now confident enough to be able to be introduced to new people by his trusted handlers in a slow, controlled environment. In the three years that Declan has been with WARF, he has made slow but steady progress, and we now feel that he is ready to find his special person. He would be an ideal dog for a single woman, as his protective nature really comes through once he has bonded with someone. He would prefer an indoor-outdoor environment, as he likes to roam the perimeter, making sure everything is safe, but needs to be securely contained as he is a big, strong boy and can't be in an environment where he could encounter a person or animal he does not know. Declan has learned to walk nicely alongside other dogs but does not want to share his life, or his people, with other animals. If you are interested in learning more about this incredibly resilient dog, please call/text 775-338-6631. An adoption process for Declan would require a calm but confident person who is willing to commit to multiple get-acquainted visits and a home check, as we want to be sure that he never has to go through abandonment and trauma again.

Dixie And Trixie
Domestic Short Hair-black and white
Dixie and Trixie are two bonded sisters who were cruelly dumped near a USA Parkway jobsite and had found shelter under an abandoned RV, where they remained for at least several days until they were spotted by a kind construction worker. He was able to catch and hold them until WARF could pick them up. As they were microchipped, we were able to contact the owner, who had moved away some time ago and entrusted the sisters to someone who must then have grown tired of caring for them, abandoning them in an area that was miles away from the nearest housing development. While somewhat shy at first, these girls are amazingly resilient given what they went through prior to their rescue. We are hopeful that we can find them a home together since they managed to stay with each other through what must have been some very traumatic days and nights on their own. According to the previous owner, they have been together since birth and are now about three years old. Please call 775-338-6631 or complete an adoption application at www.tahoewarf.org if you can give these lucky survivors a chance at life 2.0.

Felix
Tuxedo
Felix was rounded up with a group of feral cats and had a terrible eye infection. His eye was removed when he got neutered, and it wouldn't have been a good idea for him to go back out as a feral, so WARF took him into our cattery.
After a few days, he let us know he wasn't feral by showing his affection, so we moved him into the kennels with the other cats, and since then, he has proven to be a loving cat, although initially a little shy.
We are guessing on his age but he seems young. If you are interested in meeting him, please fill out an application at www.tahoewarf.org and text 775-338-6631 or 775-846-3773.

Freckles (Aka Perry)
Mastiff - American Staffordshire Terrier
Freckles, renamed from Perry by his foster because of his darling white freckles, was saved at the last minute from a high kill CA shelter. He is a gentle fellow, a perfect size at about 65 pounds, and as easygoing as they come with people, but seems to dislike other dogs and should be solo in the home.
If you are interested in meeting him, please fill out an application at www.tahoewarf.org and call 775-338-6631. We do not know how he is with cats, but his temperament is mellow so there's a good chance he would be okay. He is currently in foster in Truckee.
Freddie
Chihuahua
Freddie was foster/adopted with the knowledge that he was diagnosed with a heart murmur, the adopting family chose to move forward and took Freddie home. Freddie was brought back to the shelter for his neuter surgery on 10/10 but our veterinarian denied the surgery due to health concerns. Foster was notified and decided not to move forward with the adoption process.
Per Freddie's medical records: Dental disease grade 2-3/4, heart murmur grade 3-4/6. Cough elicit on tracheal palpation, suspect collapsing trachea.
Freddie is calm, quiet and easy to handle. He is a lap dog who just wants to curl up with you. He allow all touch, being picked up and carried around is no problem for him and meeting new dogs did not seem to have any effect on him either.
If you are interested in meeting Freddie, please fill out an application at www.tahoewarf.org and text 775-338-6631.

Lady
Pit Bull Terrier - Labrador Retriever
Meet Lady, a loving and energetic Pitbull/Labrador mix looking for her forever home! She’s curious, playful, and incredibly smart. Though a bit shy at first, once she feels comfortable, she becomes affectionate, loyal, and eager to please. In just a few weeks of fostering, she’s already learned how to sit and listen perfectly—proof of how quick she is to learn and how much she wants to connect with people. She loves playing tag (she’s always “it”!), hide-and-seek, belly rubs, and any kind of attention. Lapdog is gentle, quiet, and gets along well with other pets, making her an easy and fun companion to have around.
As her foster parent, I can honestly say she’s brought so much joy into my home. Even with my busy schedule as a full-time student-athlete, she’s been amazing to care for—sweet, easygoing, and full of personality. I’d be happy to keep fostering her, but I know she deserves a loving forever home where she can keep learning, playing, and being loved every day. If you’re looking for a smart, loyal, and playful dog to add to your family, Lady is the one.

Border Terrier - Giant Schnauzer
Paxton was rounded up as a stray and the county asked us to take him and (probably) his mother in. He is a little shy initially but warms up. He is a young dog, probably six to eight months.
He would do well in a home with other dogs, ideally playful dogs. He relies on the other dogs to show him the way but is learning to trust. He walks well on a leash with another dog present and is crate training.

Reba
Labrador Retriever - Pit Bull Terrier
Reba came to us just in the nick of time and she as her nine(!) puppies were about to be euthanized at a high kill CA shelter. She was in very bad shape with underlying allergies causing her major skin problems, skin tumors and a shrunken, blind eye. But she was the best mama ever and now that her puppies have found homes, she would love to find one as well.
Reba’s very sweet & tender. She is blind in one eye so sometimes nervous in new surroundings. She is not very confident & can seem timid. Reba loves to play & be with kids. She's good with cats although curious & wants to be playful. She does well with calm dogs.
Reba has a kind heart and is looking for a family who is willing to give her their time, attention & a chance to earn her trust. She does well in a kennel for bedtime & short stints although not good for her socialization to kennel too much. Her curiosity does drive her to want to run & explore so a fully fenced yard is a must!!
If you are interested in meeting Reba, please fill out an application at www.tahoewarf.org and text 775-338-6631 or 775-846-3773.
Sammy
Siamese
Sammy came to use from Texas where his owner wanted to euthanize him due to a positive FIV test. FIV (feline immunodeficiency virus) is a retrovirus that many cats carry, and it is absolutely not a death sentence. After initial infection, many cats remain asymptomatic for the remainder of their lives. FIV is not transmissible to humans, and cats with a positive FIV result are often housed with other cats who do not have the virus, as transmission occurs only through deep bites (NOT grooming, sharing bowls or water, shared litterboxes, etc.). You can read more about FIV here https://www.alleycat.org/resources/feline-immunodeficiency-virus-fiv/ Sammy currently has several roommates and has shown no sign of aggression, preferring to live peacefully with his fellow felines. He is shy at first and would prefer a calm, quiet environment but has never shown any inclination to bite or scratch people or other animals. Please give Sammy the chance he deserves! He has beautiful chocolate-colored paws and his coloring is similar to a seal point Siamese, with beautiful blue eyes. Call 775-338-6631 for more information about this special cat.

Saved at the last minute from a high kill CA Shelter, Wendy and her siblings came to WARF and are safe in foster homes now. Their breed is guesswork as they are so young, but they are all very sweet puppies and are now thriving. They will be ready for adoption in mid- to late-November.

Whiskey
Poodle
Whiskey is a senior boy with senior medical concerns. Per the medical records he has Ocular disease, possible mature cataracts with opaque anterior chamber. He has a 3/6 holosystolic murmur, loudest over the left apex and 4/5 dental disease. Nevertheless, he is as sweet as can be and just wants a lap to curl up in.
Whiskey was brought in by a citizen as a stray, no background information and no idea how he became lost. What is even more alarming is that no one has come looking for him. Whiskey is a sweet senior boy, eager for attention but once he is in the yard he just wants time to smell the flowers (or in our case the stinky grass). Whiskey doesn’t seem to be affected by his loss of vision and finds his way around just fine. He tested fine with another younger male and showed no reaction to the dog approaching or sniffing at him.
If you are willing to let Whiskey have a happy ending and interested in providing him a safe haven, please fill out an application at www.tahoewarf.org and text 775-338-6631
Will Feral
Tabby - Orange
Will Feral is a three-year-old orange tabby who was caught as part of a feral cat round-up and discovered to be extremely friendly. While in foster care, Will became extremely ill and the vet suspected that he had ingested antifreeze. He survived but has some neurological damage that has left him extremely wobbly and sometimes unable to reach the litter box, although he does keep things as clean as he can by going on a potty pad.
In spite of his difficulties, Will is a loving, sweet cat who starts to purr as soon as someone enters the room. He will need a quiet home where he can life out his life in safety and comfort. Although Will has an outdoor catio attached to his current living space, he prefers to stay indoors and can usually be found curled up on his favorite comfy chair. If you are interested in meeting this little survivor, please call or text 775-338-6631.
Willa
Domestic Long Hair-gray
Willa was found as a stray not far from our sanctuary. She was a pregnant teenager in need of a safe place. We took her in, but unfortunately her sole baby was stillborn.
Willa is a very sweet, playful and loving young cat who deserves a cozy, happy home. She will be spayed by mid-June and ready for a home after that.
If you are interested in Willa, please fill out an application at www.tahoewarf.org and text 775-338-6631 or 775-846-3773.
Wolfy
Domestic Long Hair-gray
Wolfy was living with his mom and siblings outside, and all of them got killed except for him. He is learning to trust still so is a bit shy, but when he lets you pet him he is a motorboat purr cat. He is afraid of dogs as that is how he lost his family so would be best in a home with no dogs.
Wolfy is in foster in Truckee, and will be available late November for adoption. If you are interested in meeting him, please fill out an application at www.tahoewarf.org and text 775-846-3773.

Griff
German Shepherd Dog - Pit Bull Terrier
*** COURTESY LISTING *** PLEASE CALL OR E-MAIL THE PERSON LISTED. DO NOT CONTACT WARF AS WE HAVE NO FURTHER INFO.
Meet Griff, an approximately 5y.o. neutered German Shepherd-Pit mix up to date on vaccines who is looking for a home. Unfortunately we have seen a lot of unexpected changes in our lives recently surrounding work and a serious injury with surgeries looming, and it’s become difficult to give him his best life.
He’s happy and healthy, gets exercise and walks
and visits with friends, cuddles on the sofa, and his needs are met- but we just can’t give him the 100% we were able to before our lives changed.
Griff had been abandoned overnight at a construction site in 2021 where the owner was working. Someone left him tied up in freezing temperatures with a
bark collar on, unneutered and unchipped at the time. Police and Animal Control never found the culprits.
He is a sweet, energetic, loyal, alert, and very intelligent dog who loves
his human and canine friends. He loves to go on hikes, backpacking, trail runs, follow you on a
bike, chase a ball, perform his many tricks, and is eager to learn and train. He’s great at home
and snoozes on the couch when we’re gone, and is crate trained and great on leash.
That said, he’s a complicated dog. Not long after we took him in we started to see significant
behavioral quirks. Whatever past trauma or lack of socialization he had likely led to his reactivity
with new people and new dogs. Griff had a lot of success working with a great dog trainer and
has gained confidence and a sense of safety out in the world since then. Nonetheless he
struggles to meet new dogs and new people in the way that most dogs do. With a structured
routine he is able to safely meet others and welcome them into his life and be friends, and he’s
loved living with other dogs we’ve fostered. What he can’t safely do is suddenly meet other dogs
while he or they are off leash, and strangers can’t come right up to him and pet him; he needs to
feel safe and calm before engaging. There have never been any serious altercations but we are
diligent to avoid any situation that could lead to trouble.
We are hoping to find someone looking for a new canine companion who can provide a
structured, engaging life for this handsome dog. With these things in mind, this new family
should be reactive-dog savvy and live an active lifestyle. We don’t think he’s a great fit for a
home with children or cats.
If you happen to know of anyone who might be a good fit for Griff
please reach out- he is in Tahoe and are owners are willing to travel with him for the right situation.

Hank
Blue Heeler
*** COURTESY LISTING *** PLEASE CALL OR E-MAIL THE PERSON LISTED. DO NOT CONTACT WARF AS WE HAVE NO FURTHER INFO.
With his family, Hank is very loving goofy and relatively calm. He does not require extensive exercise and does not pester. A 20 minute walk or a quick romp off leash suffices for him. He loves to play tug-of-war fetch with his babies and frisbee when he gets excited his little tail TikTok’s and he lets out an energetic howl.
Hank is good with commands and very intelligent. He’s a good traveler we’ve had him off-road and in the motorhome. He’s good being left alone and is not a chewer. He gets along with other dogs with a slow introduction.
If you are interested in Hank, please contact Alicia at 831-676-7670
Thor And Delilah
German Shepherd Dog
*** COURTESY LISTING *** PLEASE CALL OR E-MAIL THE PERSON LISTED. DO NOT CONTACT WARF AS WE HAVE NO FURTHER INFO.
Thor and Delilah or a mix of white Swiss shepherd and German shepherd. There is also a tiny bit of border collie in there hence the blue eye on Deliliah. They are siblings from the same litter. They will be 5 years old in December.
Both are house trained. Both are current on all vaccines. They are already established with a vet that will come to the house. Close to home veterinary is the name. And Aaron is the vet. Very kind ladies.
Thor and Delilah are great with cats as well as with kids. I have grandkids and they love them to pieces. They do struggle with loading into a car and being on a leash as they have been country dogs. They are off leash trained though. However, they can easily learn leash training easily they are very smart.
Delilah does have hip displacing in both hips and one front elbow. She takes two medications for this and those are working great for her. Those medications are Gabapentin and Carprofen. She also takes incurin for bladder leaks. After being on the incurin she no longer has that issue. All these meds work great for her. I have zero issue paying for these meds for 6 or 8 months.
The reason I am trying to find them a home is due to too many health issues for myself. My health has been an absolute struggle just to get day to day tasks done. I can no longer give what I feel they deserve. I am constantly in for surgery and testing. And now with multiple heart issues on the table I have to do what is best for them. I know they would love to be in a house full of love and time to be active outside. I now live alone and I can't get them out to do what a dog should be able to do, to run, play, and just be happy. SAVING LIVES, ONE ANIMAL AT A TIME.
The Wylie Animal Rescue Foundation (WARF) is a small group of volunteers dedicated to rescuing companion animals. We rescue animals that are in imminent danger of euthanasia, usually directly from the euthanasia holding rooms of local shelters.
We have rescued thousands of animals from certain death, but millions more were not so lucky and died--unloved and unwanted--in shelters across the country. We hope that you can help us turn the tide of suffering and death.
We rely on donations to fund emergency medical treatment, spay/neuter, and rescue. Please click here to make a one-time or recurring donation. We and the animals thank you!
